How To Have A Rock Chick Bedroom
People have been finding this blog using the search term “How To Have A Rock Chick Bedroom”. Obviously up until now they have been disappointed, as my blog hasn’t contained that seemingly much sought after information, so I will give it a go, and try to provide some insight:
1. The central element for a ‘rock chick bedroom’ in my extremely arrogant opinion, are posters / gig fliers.
Some would argue that it’s more ‘punk rock’ if thats what you’re going for to cut out stuff from magazines, visit old music stores to find sex pistols gig posters, or ask your uncle if you can have some of his, rather than buy massive colourful posters from the internet.
It’s also probably cheaper, more creative, and fulfilling to know that the 203 posters on your wall were painstakingly cut out and collaged by hand.
If you want some ideas, watch the films ‘Freaky Friday’ and ‘Juno’. Anna and Juno both have pretty ‘rock/indie chick’ bedrooms. Notice the band posters. Notice the fliers on the wall (you can get fliers by going to gigs, they generally hand them out). You could try drawing your favourite band yourself, or using photoshop place yourself in a picture with a musician / band of choice, print it off on high quality photo paper and stick in on the wall.
If you’re not allowed to stick things on the wall, try asking if you can use white tack instead of blu tack, as it’s easier to get off. NEVER use cellotape. What I did was gradually stuck posters on my wall, like a new one every week, and by the time my parents finally noticed they just shrugged and said as long as I was careful and didn’t mark the wall, it was ok. [result!]
Buy music magazines. You can learn about your fave bands, discover new music, support the local music scene, and cut out all sorts of bits and bobs from them (I even cut out mini interviews). Always remember to recycle the remains though. I once had 74 cut up kerrang magazines in my room that I eventually recycled lol…
2. Unfortunately, my old bedroom was lilac (my new bedroom doesn’t count because I’m only here for a month in total so I didn’t even bother sticking my posters back up). If you’re allowed to paint your room, try get bright colours. You may want to stay away from pastels, but if you do cover your room top to bottom with posters, the colour of the walls won’t really be relevent. If you’re lucky enough, you could try a red/black or a hot pink/black combination. If you’re really not allowed to do so, then pick a neutral happy colour, like yellow. Failing that, go for cream. Your parents can’t argue with that. And you’re gonna cover it up with posters, right?
3. I guess as it’s a bedroom, the next thing is bedding. To match my horrible lilac walls I had a horrible lilac bedding. However, I suffer from chilblains and my hands used to bleed all over the bedcovers, so my parents decided to let me pick new bedding. I found a place where you could mix and match plain bedding. I chose a red/black combination. And I’ve never looked back
If you’re lucky enough, you could try getting a Green Day bedcover or something, or even, try making your own?
4. Furniture doesn’t really matter, unless it’s light pink or something…wood is good, metal is good, and you can stick stuff on your furniture too…rugs are pretty cool, I would have loved to have had one (just not lilac) lol disco lights and lava lamps are also really really cool.
5. If you play an instrument, be proud of it, even if it’s not particularly ‘rocky’…have it on a stand or on a shelf, and take good care of it!
I guess thats about it really. Just be sure to add your own personal touches and make it YOUR room.
